3rd Annual Microarray Data Analysis | ||||||||||||||||
September 12, 2003 | ||||||||||||||||
Cambridge Healthtech Institute, Wyndham Baltimore Inner Harbor September 21-23, 2003 The use of microarrays is booming in basic and pharmaceutical research, because of the value gained by measuring the expression of numerous genes in parallel. The exploding amount of data generated by high throughput experiments, however, can become a minefield of options and opportunities for mistakes, particularly when it comes to statistical interpretation. Thorough attention is now being paid to experimental design and to methodologies for interpreting microarray data. Further progress is needed. Researchers have gained respect for the value of replicates and more sophisticated statistical analysis methods beyond simply looking for genes up- or down-regulated beyond some threshold value. Experience has also shown that adopting standards for microarray experiment annotation, data representation and normalization can be crucial for converting mounds of data into useful insight and statistically significant conclusions. Benefit from the knowledge and expertise of researchers who are leading the way to ensure the right experiments are carried out, and the most value is obtained from data being generated. |
